Why are 400mm wall panel production lines more popular than 600mm wall panel production lines

As seen in the international PVC wall panel market, 400mm and 600mm are the most widely used widths. The 600mm wall panel production line is more prevalent, but the 400mm panel production line can be said to be consistently more popular in many parts of the world, such as Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and South America. At JIANGSU XINHE INTELLIGENT EQUIPMENT CO., LTD., we have shipped both these lines to our customers in Vietnam, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and many other countries. The 400mm format has many unique features that make it popular, as evidenced by actual customer feedback.

Easier handling and installation for construction workers

Installing wall panels can be a time-consuming operation. The weight and bulk of a 600mm panel is considerably more than that of a 400mm panel of the same thickness and material. For standard room height of 2.4m to 3m, a 600mm panel weighs almost 50% more than a 400mm panel. A 400mm panel can be easily carried, positioned and fastened by one installer. Installing a 600mm panel typically takes two people or some type of mechanical lifting device, adding to the labor costs and installation time. When there is abundant labor available for construction projects, but formal training is not consistent, comfort of use is a game-winner. 400mm panels are the preferred size for contractors, as they work faster, with fewer errors and less tiredness at the end of the day. We have received this feedback from our customers in Egypt, Colombia and Turkey time and time again at JIANGSU XINHE INTELLIGENT EQUIPMENT CO., LTD. This is because the width of 400mm is better suited to the bodily size of one worker than 600mm.

Reduced thermal expansion stress in tropical and desert climates

The wall panels made of PVC expand and contract in line with temperature. The greater the width of the panel, the greater the total expansion across the width. A 600mm panel could swell by a few millimeters in hot climates, e.g., Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and Mexico. Panel may buckle or warp if not installed with sufficient expansion space. This 400mm panel swells less because it is narrower. This allows for a bit more leeway in installation and temperature changes. In places with high humidity levels or exposure to the sun, 400mm panels have proved to be more superior in terms of durability and their ability to handle warping and gapping. Minimized warranty requests equal more satisfied contractors, and increased repeat business.

Less waste when fitting around doors, windows, and electrical outlets

Wall panels very rarely cover a complete continuous surface. All walls feature doors, windows, electric outlets and corners. In some cases a contractor has to cut a 600mm panel lengthwise to fit a narrow wall section when installing 600mm panels. The offcut may be too thin to be used elsewhere, and is thus a waste. When using 400mm panels, the width provides more flexibility in layout planning. The starting point can be adjusted by the installer to be as close to zero waste as possible. For example, a wall that is 2300mm wide can accommodate five 400mm panels with 300mm left over. It might be used on a neighboring wall or a half panel close to a door frame. Three 600mm panels on the same wall would leave 500mm of the panel unused and less efficiently re-used. The total mass saved from the waste produced over many rooms is considerable with 400mm panels.

Better adaptability to local production with smaller extruders

For 600mm wall panels a larger extruder, typically 80mm to 90mm screw diameter is needed to achieve reasonable output rates. The die is wider, thus necessitating higher melt pressure and more accurate flow distribution. The calibration table and puller must also be wider. All of these factors would raise the capital cost of a 600mm line. A 400mm line can be operated productively on a 65mm or 75mm twin screw extruder. The die is compact and flat, so easier to maintain. The calibration and cooling table can be smaller. Many first time buyers choose 400mm lines from JIANGSU XINHE INTELLIGENT EQUIPMENT CO., LTD., because they represent a lower-cost investment with reduced technical risk. Some develop a customer base and distribution system and later add 600mm lines for certain big projects. For most small to medium businesses, the 400mm line is the backbone and a reliable source of profitability. To sum up, the advantages of 400mm wall panel production line are that it is easy to handle, has good thermal stability, is material-efficient, has low logistics costs, and has low initial investment. This is why it remains popular even in the era of 600mm format.
